Internships

You have a number of internship opportunities available with external organizations. Identify an organization that matches your academic and applied interests, and work with a WGSS faculty to apply research to practice.

Examples of previous internship locations chosen by students include:

  • Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis is an organization that empowers girls to be confident in their own skin, prepared for their futures, proud of who they are, and ready to take their place in the world.
  • The Julian Center is an organization that empowers survivors of domestic and sexual violence and creates a community where every individual is safe and respected.
  • Coburn Place is an organization that provides transitional housing, child services, wellbeing services, and resources to survivors of domestic abuse regardless of their race, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or religion.
  • Families First Indiana is an organization that helps families in crisis through services such as mental health counseling, parenting education, and father engagement case management.

Isra Haider

Isra Haider

“The classes in the WGSS Program are truly meaningful experiences that change the way you see the world. Gender and sexuality touch every aspect of our lives, and understanding gender disparities is essential for finding solutions and working toward a more equal society. My advice to current undergraduates is to diversify their undergraduate experience. When I first came to IU Indianapolis, I was only pursuing a Science degree, but I quickly learned that a Liberal Arts major or minor can complement any other degree. My experience with WGSS and Liberal Arts helped me see the world from a different perspective and enhanced my educational experience.”

Isra majored in sociology and biology with a minor in population health sciences. She is currently in her first year at the IU McKinney School of Law with interests in health law and policy.
