September 2022 was the soft-launch of Festival 451indy as a proof of concept. Jourdan Gullett designed the amazing “Mechanical Hound” (featured above), which served as our overarching inspiration for the month.
The Indiana State Library kicked off the Festival with the illustrative “Ray Bradbury: A Storyteller’s Story” exhibit throughout the month. We visited Chicago World-Con and had a blast getting our geek on. Guests joined us for not one, but two multi-lingual read-alouds where guests were invited to read the remarkable opening passage of Fahrenheit 451 in their own native language. We wrote along with genesis Literature and Art Magazine at the Writing our Stories with Ray Bradbury writing workshop at the Indiana State Library.
We rounded out the month in the theatre seats! Kan-Kan Cinema and Brasserie showed Eric Grayson’s restoration of the 1929 Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney followed by a panel discussion hosted by Ray Haberski and composed of Eric Grayson, Coye Lloyd, and Emmy-award winning actor Bill Oberst Jr.!
As a finale, Todd Wronski performed his one-man play, Kurt Vonnegut: My Lives’ Stories at District Theatre. This event also had a panel discussion moderated by Rob Saler and featuring Wronski himself and our very own Max Goller.
Please join us for our inaugural Festival 451indy in 2023!
