“Full Court Press,” the 19th annual United States Basketball Writers Association sports writing seminar and scholarship competition, will take place on Friday, April 5 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
The free event, which gives high school and college students with an interest in sports journalism the opportunity to cover the NCAA Final Four the day before the semifinal games, will begin with a panel discussion from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (Central Daylight Time) in the football press box. The presentation of the Oscar Robertson Trophy to the USBWA Player of the Year will take place at 9:15 a.m., followed by team practices, press conferences and the Reese’s College All-Star Game.
The panel discussion will include:
- Rachel Blount, reporter, Minneapolis Star Tribune; has covered 11 Olympics.
- Pat Borzi, contributing writer, MinnPost, The New York Times, espnW.
- Glen Crevier, former Star Tribune sports editor and past president, Associated Press Sports Editors.
- Dana O’Neil, senior writer, The Athletic and past USBWA president.
Students can enter a competition for a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the late Larry Donald, the only two-time USBWA president and the founding editor of Basketball Times.
The seminar is being organized by the Sports Capital Journalism Program at IUPUI and will be moderated by its director, past USBWA president Malcolm Moran.
There is limited space available, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Applications will be accepted in the order they are received.

The discussion will include topics such as the influence of social media, the state of the job market, navigational skills in a 24/7 digital era and survival tactics to deal with increasingly challenging deadlines.
