Full Court Press
“Full Court Press,” the annual United States Basketball Writers Association sports writing seminar and scholarship competition, will take place on Friday, March 30 in the Family Hospitality Room on the event level of the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The session will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., following the presentation of the Oscar Robertson Trophy to the USBWA Player of the Year at 9:15 a.m.
The 18th anniversary event provides opportunities for students interested in a career in sports journalism to cover events on the day before the national semifinals, including practices, press conferences and the Reese’s College All Star Game.
Students may enter a writing competition for a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the late Larry Donald, the only two-time USBWA president and the founding editor of Basketball Times.
The seminar is being organized by the Sports Capital Journalism Program at IUPUI and will be moderated by its director, past USBWA president and Hall of Fame member Malcolm Moran.
There is limited space available, so early registration is strongly encouraged. Applications will be accepted in the order they are received.

The seminar includes a panel discussion featuring:
- Pat Forde, national college columnist, Yahoo Sports, past USBWA president.
- Jim Lefko, sports editor, San Antonio Express-News.
- Nick Moyle, Longhorns Insider, San Antonio Express-News.
- Dana O’Neil, senior writer for The Fieldhouse, past USBWA president.
The discussion will include topics such as the influence of social media, the state of the job market, navigational skills in a 24/7 digital era and survival tactics to deal with increasingly difficult deadlines.
