The Museum of Broken Relationships Indianapolis is a new exhibit developed as a collaboration between the IU Indianapolis Museum Studies Program, the Museum of Broken Relationships (based in Zagreb, Croatia), and partners around Indianapolis. WISH TV’s Scott Sander interviewed Dr. Laura Holzman, Associate Professor of Museum Studies in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IU Indianapolis, and the Museum’s co-founder Dražen Grubišić.
The Museum of Broken Relationships collects and exhibits the objects and stories that remain when relationships end. At their galleries in Zagreb and in a series of temporary community-based exhibits worldwide, the Museum of Broken Relationships constructs empathetic journeys that are at once highly specific and universally resonant. The Museum of Broken Relationships Indianapolis reflects the substantial contributions of IU Indianapolis students enrolled in the Curatorial Practices, Museum Education, and Museums and Audiences courses during the 2022-23 academic year. The Indianapolis project team is led by professors Lois H. Silverman and Laura M. Holzman. Holzman and Silverman also moderated a panel discussion with the Museum of Broken Relationships co-founders on Feb. 8; a recording of the event will be available soon from the Herron School of Art + Design.
