BIO: Professor Obioma Nnaemeka is a distinguished scholar and an expert in the fields of gender/women’s studies, African/African Diaspora Studies and development. She is currently Chancellor’s Professor of French, Women’s/Gender Studies and Africana Studies, and a former Director of the Women’s Studies Program at Indiana University, Indianapolis, USA.
She is the President and CEO of the Jessie Obidiegwu Education Fund, a nongovernmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the education of women and girls in Africa, and serves on the Editorial or Advisory Board of numerous refereed scholarly journals. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Africana Gender Studies. Dr. Nnaemeka combines research and teaching with consultancy for the United Nations, the World Bank, governments, international agencies, and academic institutions. She is also the convener of the Women in Africa and the African Diaspora (WAAD) international conferences.
As the founder and president of the Association of African Women Scholars, Professor Nnaemeka has collaborated with global networks of scholars and activists committed to social transformation. In May, 2022, she received an Honorary Doctorate in the Humanities from the American University of Paris, Paris, France.
