Dr. Rebecca K. Shrum recently published a review of Edward S. Cooke’s book Inventing Boston: Design, Production, and Consumption, 1680–1720, in the Journal of American History.

From the review:

This lavishly illustrated history of material culture in colonial Boston from 1680 to 1720 explores objects and buildings constructed with brick (houses), slate (slate-topped tables and gravestones), wood (cane and leather chairs, leafed oval tables, and high chests of drawers), textiles (household textiles and clothing), ceramics (porcelain, stoneware, and earthenware), and silver (a wide variety of forms with a focus on engraving).
