What do want to be when you grow up? How many times have you been asked that question? How has your response changed over time? Making decisions about majors and careers can be tough, and that’s where we come in! Welcome to the Career Corner. In this blog, we’re excited to talk about majors, careers, internships, job searches, resumes, LinkedIn, and more. To get started, I want to introduce your career team in Liberal Arts. You can count on us to support you through your journey in Liberal Arts – and beyond.
Evan and Anneka are career consultants. They can meet with you individually to help you develop your career goals and interests, network and prepare for interviews, and polish your resume and cover letter for internships, part-time jobs, professional positions, and graduate school.
Anneka is a Liberal Arts alum! She graduated from IUPUI with a BA in Communication Studies and is pursuing the Applied Communication MA. Novi is her cowhorse-dog, Loki is her kitten, and Onyx is her baby kitten. Anneka’s favorite dessert is fruit pizza – if you don’t know what it is, google it!
Evan received his BA in Public Relations at Franklin College and his MS in Educational Psychology at Purdue Global. Evan and his fiancé have a one and half year-old son, Asher. Charles and Klarence are their fur babies. Evan enjoys cheering on all the professional Indianapolis sports teams while deciphering which team is which because of his color blindness.
Symphanie manages our social media and newsletters. She fosters relationships with employers in our community. She graduated from IUPUI with a BS in Organizational Leadership and Supervision with a minor in Civic Leadership and certificate in Human Resources. Symphanie and her eight-year-old daughter, Sammie, love being active and creative. You can find them horseback riding, practicing yoga, filming, and acting. Symphanie can never pass up a cookies and cream milkshake.
And a little about me. I’ve been working at IUPUI for 13 years. I’m passionate about supporting students in making their academic and career goals a reality. I lead the academic and career advising teams in Liberal Arts. I received my BS in Child Development from Purdue University and MS in Counseling and Counselor Education at IUPUI. I have two kids, Carson and Maddie. I try not to ask them what they want to be when they grow up. Instead, I like asking what problems do you want to solve? Or, what do you want to learn more about?
That’s our story so far and we’re so excited to be here. We’re excited to help you discover your passions and come up with a plan to turns dreams into reality.
