Community Advisory Board Named for Arabic and Islamic Studies Minor
The Arabic Studies Program is grateful to welcome several prominent Arab and Muslim Hoosiers to its Community Advisory Board:
- Dr. Tarick Abdo, Podiatrist;
- Dr. Majdi Abu-Salih, Medical Director, Community Health Pediatric Gastroenterology;
- Ms. Hiba Alalami, former director, Indiana Muslim Advocacy Network, and PhD student, American studies;
- Dr. Mohammad Al-Haddad, Naga P. Chalasani Chair and and director, IU School of Medicine’s Gastroenterology Division;
- Dr. Sohel Anwar, Professor of Motorsports & Mechanical Engineering, Purdue;
- Dr. Shadia Jalal, Associate Professor at IU School of Medicine and Program Leader, Thoracic Oncology;
- Dr. Fady Qaddoura, Indiana State Senator;
- Ms. Salma Qaddourah, J.D., partner, McNeely Law, LLP, and President, Indiana Chapter of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee;
- Mr. Muhammad Safder, Muslim Community Center; and
- Dr. Ahmad Saltagi, Director, ICU, RT, and Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab, Riverview Hospital.
In addition to pledging meaningful financial support to the program, board members will advise the program on its public programming and help its students identify internships and other opportunities for community-engaged research and learning.
According to IU Indianapolis Arabic Studies Program Director Edward Curtis, “the hallmark of an IU Indianapolis education is community engagement, and this board will be essential to making sure that the Arabic and Islamic studies minor is effective and inspiring in its work with and for the communities it serves.”
