IU Indy JPAC: Jag Performing Arts Club

Are you excited about the potential to connect with other members of the IU Indianapolis community who possess shared advocacy, passion, and talents for theatre and other branches of performing arts? Do you miss that feeling of connection and ensemble you can have with other artists? Would you like to be part of a club that is student-driven and whose activities are informed by their own mission?

Then Jag Performing Arts Club (JPAC) is for you!

Founded in the winter of 2015, Jag Performing Arts Club (commonly-known as JPAC) is a student theatre organization, whose primary goals include the facilitation of social gatherings, workshops, performance outings and independent performance production.

JPAC’s mission is to “spread joy of performing arts by having students engage, present, and perform in theatrical arts no matter whether they want to act on stage, help behind the scenes, or watch performances.”

Led by a group of student officers, JPAC can boast over 500 students that are engaged on its campus email listserv, GroupMe, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. Along with monthly in-person meetings held in the basement of Cavanaugh Hall, JPAC uses its social media presence to promote its own events, and auditions for student-led performances. JPAC also shares local casting notices, internships opportunities and performance-related resources for IU Indianapolis students from the greater Indianapolis area.

JPAC call-out members connect and prepare themselves for some active games, exercises, and warm-ups, which are a common ingredient of every monthly JPAC meeting.

Two cast members from JPAC’s Spring 2023 production of Big Einsteins, perform a scene during tech week in the theatre located in the basement of Cavanaugh Hall. This original piece was written by student president Virginia Sever.

As a member of IU Indy’s Jag Performing Arts Club, you’ll have agency and your own budget and have an artistic vote in its entirely student-run theatre offerings during the academic year. You’ll have the opportunity to take artistic leadership roles of all kinds with these dramatic collaborations. These performances have included talent shows, one act plays, monologue showcases and the ever-popular “Jag Voices”. “Jag Voices” focuses on performing student-generated work and provides a unique and vital outlet for artistic expression that is open to all IU Indianapolis students, not just those with a declared Liberal Arts focus. Being involved in these events, you’ll have the opportunity to take artistic leadership roles of all kinds, both on-stage and off!

Whodunnit and why? Cast members from Noirish: A Murder Mystery, react to a madcap moment near the climax of the piece. Zachary Adkins (pictured standing on far right) wrote this original parody, which was performed at the IU Indianapolis Campus Center.
