Growing up, I did not originally plan on working in the museum field. I’ve always loved museums, but I had initially planned on studying media production. In high school, however, I made a seemingly inconsequential choice. In 2013, I began volunteering at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Initially, I had just planned on using the experience for undergrad applications, but over time I fell in love with the work. I continued volunteering during the summers in my early undergrad, and eventually transitioned over into paid staff as a museum interpreter. By the time I had earned my undergraduate diploma, I had decided I wanted to work in the museum field as my career.

During my time in the Museum Studies program, I have developed my existing skills as a museum educator, but also explored new fields and interests within the scope of museum work. Among my many projects, I have done work creating storage boxes within collections of the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, collected data for the Museum of Broken Relationships Indianapolis exhibition, and helped create a strategic plan for the Koorsen Fire Museum.

My favorite project, however, was working with a phenotype specimen within the Children’s Museum’s fossil collection. I may not have planned to work in museums all my life, but now after all my experiences there’s no other field I’d rather work in.  If you’d like to learn more, I invite you to check out my E-Portfolio in the link below!
