MSTD-A405, Museum Methods (UG)
Liz Kryder-Reid | Wednesdays 3:00-5:40pm
This survey of museum practice introduces students to methods, skills, and resources in three areas of museum work: artifacts, interpretation, and organizational administration, as well as to the ethical ramifications of these methods.
MSTD-A408, Museum Internship
Holly Cusack-McVeigh | Fridays 12-2:40pm, monthly
Students doing museum internships are supported though proposal development, site visits, applied research projects (graduate students only), and professional development opportunities. To identify an internship for fall 2024, undergraduates who are in the MSTD UG Certificate program should contact Dr. Cusack-McVeigh and grad students should meet with their graduate advisor.
MSTD-A412, Exhibit Planning and Design
Laura Holzman | Wednesdays 12-2:40pm
This course offers a survey of museum exhibit planning and design through an integration of theory and practice. The class introduces students to exhibit development, including exhibit administration, design, and evaluation, and to a variety of professional skills through hands-on exercises, exhibit critiques, museum observations, and in-museum classes.
MSTD-A418, Museums and Audiences
Lois Silverman | Tuesdays 12-2:40pm
This course examines the ways museums seek to better understand their audiences, serve them more effectively, and strive to reach new audiences. The course looks at a broad range of visitor studies and the ways in which museums and audiences interact.
MSTD-A477, Community Collaboration and Curation
Holly Cusack-McVeigh | Thursdays (March 11-May 11) 12-2:40pm
Explore paths to meaningful collaboration through participation in a community-based, community-driven project while gaining a deeper understanding of Anishinaabe culture (specifically the Ojibwa, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples of the Great Lakes region). This course will include a lively combination of lectures, group discussions, and a community-driven project with/for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan’s Ziibiwing Center of Anishinaabe Culture & Lifeways.
