I teach a variety of face-to-face and online classes, ranging from COMM-G100 (the gateway course for COMM majors) to seminars in health communication and intercultural communication for graduate students. I am committed to service learning and integrate service learning opportunities into many of my classes. In addition, I am an advocate for the value of internationalizing curriculum and seek to embed global learning outcomes into my classes.

SERVICE
The primary focus of my research is on how symbolic exchange re/creates social realities, thus shaping perceptions and behaviors. I have explored this relationship among messages, perceptions, and behavior in a variety of context areas, including health discourse (specifically chronic disease management), intercultural communication (specifically the communicative construction of cultural perceptions and the role of media representations in shaping those perceptions), and conflict management (primarily in organizational settings). I also am interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning, particularly in online pedagogy, curriculum development, and the use of ePortfolios to communicate student learning.
