Welcome to the Department of Political Science in the IU School of Liberal Arts, where you will have the opportunity to study directly with scholars working at the cutting edge of research. Our faculty are active researchers and recognized national and international experts, whose knowledge is sought by both print and television news organizations. In addition, we offer four academic options for course of study:
You will be a part of small classes, with an average of less than 30 students. We pride ourselves in our diverse learning environment where faculty and students interact, ask questions, and deliberate about politics, government, and citizenship. Our graduates are working at the highest levels of local, national, and international government, in law and politics, and across the business world.
If you plan to go on to the graduate level, you will find that the political science major provides excellent background for law school or graduate school in political science, sociology, economics or a number of other social science disciplines.
Our goal is to prepare you for a lifetime of success, so you can live your best life—whether that means graduate school or starting your career. You will gain experience in the workforce, while getting class credit through our outstanding internship program that will place you in government and law offices from Indiana to Washington D.C, giving you the chance to build your career networks before graduation.
If you plan to go on to the graduate level, our small classes and the close relationships you create with our faculty will give you an edge. Undergraduate students regularly work directly with faculty on research projects, obtain significant research grants, present at IU Indianapolis’s research day, and even co-author research papers.
Ultimately, you will graduate with an excellent background for law school or graduate school in political science, economics, sociology, or a number of other social science disciplines.
