Research on People of African Descent

The Olaniyan Scholars Program promotes the development of undergraduate research, community engagement, and study abroad experiences. The program’s scholarly and academic activities and the scholarship and research focused on people of African descent. This program provides exciting opportunities for students, as well as aiding in providing the financial support students need to focus on and succeed in achieving their academic and professional goals.

We emphasize undergraduate research, community engagement, and study abroad opportunities. Scholars work with full-time faculty mentors to develop a research project that they can then present at conferences, symposiums, and undergraduate research forums. The program also encourages community engagement, allowing scholars to work with community partners to enrich the lives of people of color in Indianapolis.

Each year, we host the Olaniyan Scholars Research Day. This event displays scholars and their research mentor’s work through both poster and paper presentations. Join us on March 5, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. on the 2nd-floor lobby in Cavanaugh Hall. If there are any questions, please contact olaniyan@iu.edu or 317-274-8741.
