Welcome to the Writing Center!

The University Writing Center is a community of writers supporting writers. Our work is conducted through peer-to-peer mentoring by undergraduate, graduate, and faculty writing consultants and is available to all levels of IU INDY students. Students can work one-on-one with experienced readers and writers to improve their writing process and receive constructive feedback on their assignments. Our writing consultants are experienced readers who have completed a writing center education course prior to employment. They enjoy reading, writing, and talking to others about their writing.

Variety of programming

You can sign up for face-to-face, in person, synchronous, and, occasionally, asynchronous online writing consultations with writing consultants. Writers of all skill levels can benefit from working with writing consultants at any stage of the writing process, be it brainstorming, drafting, revising, or final polishing. Students may schedule sessions using our online scheduling system.

Through the UWC, students can participate in in-class workshops facilitated by student consultants addressing a variety of topics including the writing process, thesis-driven writing, avoiding plagiarism, and citation support. If you are interested in having us conduct a workshop for your class, please email us (uwc@iu.edu) and in the subject line, say “Request for Directors.”

We also participate in campus events to promote engagement with the University Writing Center community.
