As part of an ongoing partnership with IU Health, ICIC recently concluded an eight-week course in English for Specific Purposes to a group of employees at Riley Hospital for Children. The employees were a mix of Environmental Service (EVS) technicians and Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) workers who wanted to increase their English proficiency.Â
The course was designed to equip learners with language skills needed to be successful in their specific roles within IU Health. Through interactive instruction and communicative, language-focused activities, students increased specific language knowledge and improved fluency to help them feel more comfortable speaking with coworkers, patients, and clients, as well as in the world around them.
The final class consisted of performative dialogues and skits that demonstrated our students’ hard work and dedication followed by a graduation and awarding of certificates. Shoutout to all the students that participated in the course and the eight students who had perfect attendance. Congratulations to our graduating class of the IU Health Riley Hospital EVS/FNS English program!
