Since the Department of Journalism and Public Relations launched the Jim Brown Interview Series in October 2021, each episode has featured a current student interviewing a successful alumnus.

For the fourth episode, the department instead asked a faculty member, Malcolm Moran, director of the Sports Capital Journalism Program, to interview a current M.A. in Sports Journalism student, Bryan Carter. Carter has over 25 years of experience as a television sports producer and is studying for his master’s degree in pursuit of a collegiate teaching career. Carter is also teaching a IUPUI journalism class this semester called JOUR-J343 Broadcast News. Drawing on Carter’s impressive professional experience, the course is focusing on sports broadcasting this semester.

Moran and Carter sat down together in the School of Liberal Arts studio to discuss Carter’s perseverance with breaking into the business, his work on Monday Night Football broadcasts, how the industry has changed over recent years, and more.

The interview series is named in honor and appreciation of Jim Brown, who served as executive associate dean of journalism at IUPUI for 28 years.
