As a public information specialist at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), Casey Kenworthy’s job has become more important than ever since the COVID-19 crisis began. Kenworthy, B.A.J. ‘18, works two days a week in the Joint Information Center (JIC) and one day a week in the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), in addition to his normal work hours with IDHS. He does communications and public affairs work from home.

“I answer questions from citizens, write informational materials, and coordinate messaging with all the government agencies involved in the state’s COVID-19 response,” Kenworthy said. “It has been an incredible experience so far.”

The work is fast-paced in both the EOC and JIC, so life can get a bit stressful. But Kenworthy enjoys his career in the emergency management field and said that working in the EOC and JIC has reinforced that ambition even more.

“It’s been an honor to work for the state of Indiana during its COVID-19 response,” Kenworthy said.

“I appreciate the professional experience I’m learning from everyone I’m working with, and most of all, I appreciate having the opportunity to help make my community a safer place.”
