Journalism Major

Journalism and public relations courses will teach you how to become an effective storyteller and help you sharpen the skills that employers are looking for. As a Journalism major, you will need to take 38 credit hours of journalism courses, with a grade of C or better in each. (No more than 12 credit hours may transfer in the major.)

  • JOUR-J 110: Foundations of Journalism and Mass Communications
  • JOUR-J 200: Reporting, Writing, and Editing
  • JOUR-J 210: Visual Communication
  • JOUR-J 300: Communications Law (P: Sophomore standing)
  • JOUR-J 400 or JOUR-J 402: Careers in Journalism and Public Relations (1 credit)
  • JOUR-J 410: Media Ethics (capstone)
  • JOUR-J 492: Media Internship (P: by permission only) (1 credit)

Journalism Electives: (21 credits)

Choose any 21 credits in journalism and public relations (JOUR-J) coursework as long as you meet the prerequisite for that course.
