IUPUI Journalism alumna Sarah Bahr reported a story on Saturday about an Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields job posting that mentioned “maintaining the Museum’s traditional, core, white art audience,” in addition to attracting a more diverse one, according to Bahr’s New York Times article. The Indianapolis Museum of Art has since edited the director position posting and apologized for the choice of language used.
Bahr, who is a culture reporter for the New York Times based in Indianapolis, also reported that a petition is circulating that calls for the immediate removal of the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s CEO, Charles Venable; a more diverse board and curatorial staff; and a hold on any funding to the museum from the Lilly Endowment or the city.
Another IUPUI alumna, Breanna Cooper, localized the story for The Indianapolis Recorder, where she is a staff writer.
