You can gain real-life journalism experience at The Campus Citizen, the only independent student media at IU Indianapolis. The Citizen, an online publication, has three main sections — Campus, Culture, and Sports, as well as growing Politics and Opinion sections. Writers, photographers, videographers, and podcasters are welcome to join the staff, regardless of major.

The Citizen offers a semester-long internship that helps you develop writing skills and qualifies for JOUR-J492 internship credit (1 cr.). The staff typically meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m., either via Zoom or in Cavanaugh Hall.

At IU Indianapolis, you can gain skills and exposure in sports broadcasting by working on Jag Sports Zone, a weekly show produced by students in COMM-M290 Video Production Workshop, a Communication Studies course in the IU School of Liberal Arts. Episodes include coverage and highlights of IU Indianapolis sports teams and exclusive interviews with student-athletes.
