Sarah Lounsbury, a M.A. in Sports Journalism student and May 2022 B.A.J. graduate, recently began a summer job as a PR Assistant at BLASTmedia, a public relations agency in Indianapolis.
“I have had my eye on BLASTmedia since my sophomore year when I went to their office as part of PRSSA’s Half Day with a Pro,” said Lounsbury, who is the president of the PRSSA chapter at IUPUI. “I was really impressed with their culture, values and the great work they produce day in and day out. The company has grown exponentially since I first learned about them with around 30 employees in 2019 to now 75 employees and growing, which was also attractive in the job application process. When I saw they were accepting applications for this summer, it was a no brainer for me to apply.”
As a PR Assistant, Lounsbury will build press lists, find reactive pitching opportunities, craft pitches to send to journalists and complete research on the different clients she is assigned to.
“I’m looking forward to honing my pitching skills and creating relationships with my co-workers at BLASTmedia this summer,” said Lounsbury. “When I was in Professor Rodger Johnson’s Public Relations Writing class this past spring semester, I really enjoyed creating pitches and sending those out to reporters in an effort of getting coverage on our client.”
“Everyone that I have met at BLAST is so nice, helpful and knowledgeable which is a big reason why I look forward to going into the office. One of the requirements of my assistantship is to arrange a lunch or coffee date with one person for every position BLAST offers. I think it’s great that BLAST encourages us to do this. I love meeting new people, and it’s nice that BLAST helps in facilitating relationships.”
