In the Department of Sociology, we offer a variety of unique learning opportunities for students and the community to critically examine the complex social, economic, political, and technological challenges facing our society today.
We seek to contribute to the broader intellectual mission of the School to “enhance the intellectual fabric of Greater Indianapolis, Central Indiana, and the state through its basic and applied research and teaching on social issues and problems.” We draw on the unique resources offered by IU Indianapolis and the city of Indianapolis.
Our department has strong associations with the IU School of Medicine, the new School of Public Health, the Survey Research Center, the Institute for Research on Social Issues, the Office of International Affairs, Moi University in Kenya, the Center on Philanthropy and Philanthropic Studies, the Center for Service and Learning, and the Medical Humanities program, just to name a few.
