Admissions Requirements and How to Apply

Applications for the MA program are accepted for Fall and Spring Semester

  • October 15 – final deadline for spring admission
  • March 15 – final deadline for fall admission

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. institution or a certifiable international equivalent with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0). They should have five undergraduate sociology courses (or approved equivalents, with no more than two of the latter) with a GPA of at least 3.0.  Our required graduate advanced statistics course has a prerequisite of undergraduate statistics with a grade of B- or better. The GRE test is not required.

Checklist for a complete application must include the following:

  • Completed online application.
  • Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic abilities.
  • Official transcript(s) of all previous college and university work, documenting each course taken, grades received, and all degrees awarded.
  • Personal Statement:  a 500-750 word essay on “Why I want to enter a Master’s Degree in Sociology.”
  • Writing sample: a sole-authored writing sample (a recent term paper or report analyzing a social science topic).
  • International Students must also submit evidence of English language proficiency.
