I am a born and raised Hoosier, originally hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have traveled to ten countries and three continents and love learning about other people and cultures. I also love to doodle, paint and appreciate all kinds of visual art. Particularly things that make you think, “buck” the norm, or show great effort in their construction and craftsmanship. My music tastes are very eclectic and span numerous genres and languages. I have an affinity for horses and “Western” stuff and love the paintings of Frederic Remington.
Emilio G. Robles (Wabash College BA, MFA in Acting from the University of Pittsburgh and additionally trained by SITI Company, Shakespeare & Co., BADA-Oxford Oxford and Soujourn Theatre) is a Visiting Lecturer in Applied Theatre. Emilio is an actor, coach, director, teaching artist and voiceover professional. Emilio is also an Associate Artist with Adventure Stage Chicago, a member of SAG-AFTRA and can showcase an array of professional performance credits on radio, stage and screen. A veteran artist educator, prior administrative and teaching credentials include CCAP at Columbia College Chicago, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Ingenuity Inc., Chicago Public Schools Department of Arts Education, Lookingglass Theatre Company and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Emilio joined the department of Communication Studies at IUPUI to re-envision, reinvigorate and realign the theatre program towards Applied Theatre practice, which utilizes the gifts of theatre in addressing issues of diversity, inclusion and social justice to bring theatre performance and application to nontraditionally or underserved audiences and spaces. He has brought his expertise and passion in curriculum design, cultural literacy, multi-disciplinary arts integration and devised work in contribution to the department and the School of Liberal Arts’ new ATFT major. Simultaneously, he has infused theatre courses with new pedagogies and engaging praxis for students centering around awareness, choice-making and creating an “artist identity”. He currently teaches Introduction to Theatre, Introduction to Acting, Rehearsal and Performance, Introduction to Public Speaking and Creative Dramatics. Emilio will also be teaching several new courses (which he specifically) developed for the new Applied Theatre ATFT Major.
