IUPUI has held a speech contest for over 50 years, resulting in 103 Speech Competition events. In the Speaker’s Lab, we currently have two mentors who participated in the contest, Katya Halstead, winner of the 100th Speech Competition, and Halima Alloosh, second runner up of the 102nd Speech Competition.
Katya is currently a junior studying Visual Communication Design. In addition to being a fabulous mentor, she is also the Speaker’s Lab designer! She makes all the current Speech Contest awards and programs, and anything else the lab needs! She decided to work at the lab because it offered her more design experience and she wanted to give back to the program. Katya loves the people in the lab and the overall environment of the lab. We are so lucky to have her as a member of our team.
Halima is a sophomore studying Biology with two minors in Chemistry and Public health. She is currently our newest mentor at the lab! She is doing a wonderful job so far and we can’t wait to see what she does in the future! She decided to work at the lab because it sounded like a great opportunity for her! Halima enjoys the flexibility of the job and she enjoys how the lab puts being a student first. We are so happy that she joined our team!
We are so lucky to have these two amazing women at the Lab! We appreciate their dedication to R110 and all of the hard work they put into their Speech Contests.
