Showing proof of financial resources

This information is only for those coming from another country with an F-1 visa.

Students who want to come to the U.S. with an F-1 student visa must have an I-20 form generated by IU Indianapolis.

To get an I-20, you must include the following required documents:

  1. Proof of financial resources
    • If you have a government scholarship (such as Saudi students sponsored by SACM), attach your scholarship letter.
    • If you or a family member or a friend will pay for your study, upload two files to your application:
  2. Completed Individual Sponsor Form
  3. Bank Statement or Letter from Bank – Please provide your recent bank statement or request a letter from the bank. The bank account must belong to an individual person, NOT a business. The bank statement or letter must be less than 6 months old and show:
    • The name and address of the bank
    • The name of the person who has this account (account holder)
    • The total amount of money in the account
    • The kind of money (for example Euros, Saudi riyals, Chinese Yuan)

Note: The bank letter can be in your language as long as we can find the above information.

After you submit your application, you will receive an admission letter and welcome packet via email. Please read both documents carefully.

PIE will create your I-20 form. The I-20 form will be delivered via email to the student’s email address only within 2 weeks of admission.

After you receive the I-20 form, you will need to pay your SEVIS Fee and schedule your visa appointment. Please read your Welcome Packet and admission email for steps on how to pay the fee and schedule your embassy appointment.
