Between January 19th and March 7, 2020, the PIE was proud to host 10 top-tier undergraduate students from all over Argentina. The program, now in its third year, brings Argentinian students to IUPUI for seven weeks of academic and cultural immersion activities.

During the program, participants had the chance to strengthen their knowledge of the U.S. educational system, learn more about and prepare for the possibilities for graduate study in the U.S., interact and network with American students, and gain a deeper understanding of American culture and society. Students in a wide range of majors also had the opportunity to audit a university course during the seven-week program. In addition, students joined advanced IUPUI undergraduate students in an upper-division course on “Consumption, Ethics, and the Good Life,” taught by award-winning professor Dr. David Craig in the Department of Religious Studies, as well as took a course focused on advanced, graduate-level academic English skills.

Each Friday, participants went on field trips around Indianapolis, including visits to the IMA at Newfields, the Children’s Museum, and the City County Building and Statehouse to meet one-on-one with Mayor Joe Hogsett! 

Participants also lived with homestay hosts from the Indianapolis area, and experienced what day-to-day life was like for a typical American family. 

“It was an experience that I’ll never forget, and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to live at such an amazing university as IUPUI,” said Lautaro Leandro Garcia Alonso, an Advocacy major currently studying in Buenos Aires. “I really hope to come back someday.”
