James E. Sawyers Memorial Scholarship
Overview
The scholarship was created to memorialize James E. Sawyers, who was devoted to helping at-risk youth succeed in life through their pursuit of education. When he passed, many came together to create the James E. Sawyers Memorial a testament to Mr. Sawyers' commitment to service and to the potential of education to change lives.
Selection Criteria
This scholarship was created by the IU School of Liberal Arts Political Science Department for undergraduate students who are majoring in political science, are at least sophomores, are first-generation college students, and have demonstrated financial need. Recipient will be majoring in Political Science at IU Indianapolis and must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who graduated from high school in Marion County. Because, as part of its mission, Indiana University is committed to diversity, special consideration will also be given to underrepresented populations, including but not limited to financially challenged students, and/or students with diverse cultural experiences.
The department bases its selection on superior scholastic achievement, demonstrated potential for intellectual growth, faculty recommendations, and special contributions to the Political Science Department.
