Overview

The scholarship is named in honor of Professor Margaret A. Cook, who for 26 years provided leadership in promoting foreign language study at IUPUI (now IU Indianapolis). She helped establish the world languages program in the IU School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis. This scholarship was created to promote and encourage the study of French and other modern foreign languages and is presented to a student who is majoring in the IU School of Liberal Arts and has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the study of a modern foreign language. The scholarship may be used to help the student go on an accredited study abroad educational opportunity.

Selection Criteria

Students must be Liberal Arts majors participating in approved Indiana University study abroad programs majoring in French or another modern foreign language. Other criteria include: demonstrated outstanding academic achievement via their cumulative GPA, language ability, plans for continued study of modern foreign language. Only modern foreign language majors are eligible.

Applicants will submits a faculty letter of recommendation, study abroad program information flyer including description of program and costs, and write an essay about study abroad plans, interest in language study, future educational and career plans, and the importance of the study abroad program to your Liberal Arts education. (maximum 500 words)
