Mary Louise Rea Short Story Award

Overview

The Mary Louise Rea Short Story Award honors Professor Emerita Rea for her inspirational teaching and her ability to convey her love of writing and drawing out each person's creative center. This award is given to the author of the best short story written by any student who has been enrolled in a creative writing course in the last 18 months and who is currently an undergraduate student enrolled at IU Indianapolis.

Selection Criteria

Qualified applicants will be students enrolled or have completed one or more of the following creative writing courses: W206, W301, W303, W401, W403, and W411 at IU Indianapolis within the last 18 months. Students may submit two (2) stories. Students may revise and edit their work before submitting it. Works submitted for the Mary Louise Rea Short Story Award may not be submitted for the Creative Nonfiction Award. Please do not put your name on any submitted manuscript.

Recipients of the award will be determined in a blind reading competition by an external judge chosen by the English Department faculty in the IU School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis.
