The Preston Eagleson Award
Overview
This award is presented to an IU Indianapolis undergraduate student for outstanding achievement in a paper written on the African-American experience. The prize honors Preston Eagleson, the first African American to receive an advanced degree from Indiana University.
Criteria
Recipients of the award shall be enrolled undergraduate students majoring or minoring in Africana Studies and have made or make a written scholarly contribution to the Africana Studies Program. This award may be expanded to those enrolled in certificate programs in African or Africana Studies. The award is granted to the student presenting the best essay (5-10 pages) advancing our understanding of the African or African-American experience.
