As she wraps up her service as the Immediate Past President of the Liberal Arts Alumni Board, Charity Counts leaves behind a legacy of thoughtful leadership, meaningful community-building, and an enduring commitment to mentoring and engagement.
Charity's path to the School of Liberal Arts was shaped by a spark ignited in her early museum career. After completing her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts at Ball State University, she discovered a passion for museums through a project at a local museum called Minnetrista and was encouraged to pursue further study. That encouragement led her to the Museum Studies program at IU Indianapolis-at the time, the only program of its kind in Indiana. Her coursework blended museology, anthropology, nonprofit management, education, and hands-on museum experience, setting the stage for a rich and rewarding career.
It was also the beginning of Charity’s deep connection to the Liberal Arts community.
When she was invited to serve on the Alumni Board, Charity had never served on a board before, but she welcomed the opportunity. “I was surprised and honored,” she recalls. “It felt like a privilege worth pursuing.” That first step into alumni leadership turned into years of active service, including her recent service as board president.
