Digital Media Production Studio
Purpose
The primary purpose of the Digital Media Production Studio is to support academic instruction and student learning for the IU School of Liberal Arts. Highest priority is given to the use of the studio space and equipment, including field equipment, for classroom instruction and lab time.
When the studio is not in use classes or labs, Liberal Arts faculty and staff may use designated portions of the studio, in-studio equipment, or field equipment for projects in support of the School.
Students who are enrolled in media production-related courses (e.g., Introduction to Television Production, Audio Production and Podcasting) or who participate in media production-related registered student organizations (e.g., The Campus Citizen) may also use designated portions of the studio, in-studio equipment, or field equipment, when not in use for classes or labs.
Note: The IU School of Liberal Arts reserves the right to take corrective action with students who do not return equipment in a similar working condition as when checked-out or who fail to return equipment.
Personnel
The digital media production manager (“studio manager”) serves as the educational resource specialist for the Digital Media Production Studio. The studio manager:
- Partners with IU School of Liberal Arts leadership and departments regarding studio use and equipment.
- Supports instructional readiness of the studio space and its equipment.
- Uses the studio and its equipment in support of marketing the school (e.g., production services related to recruitment, retention, alumni or community engagement, or development).
- Provides basic tutorials on studio equipment to aid faculty and staff in their use.
- Provides limited for-fee production services to academic units, centers/institutes, faculty, staff, and student organizations, inside and outside of the School.
For questions about the digital media production studio or to reserve the space or equipment, please contact Linda Mutchman, digital media production manager.
Media Production Fees
IU School of Liberal Arts academic units, centers, and institutes as well as those with research projects, are responsible for budgeting for the resources they need, including media production services.
Media production services that use the studio space and/or utilize the skill and time of the studio manager follow a set rate card (see chart below). These charges apply to Liberal Arts and IU clients seeking production services. It also includes research projects (including those funded by grants) and public scholarship.
Travel and expenses may be additional.
In some cases, it may be necessary to decline a project due to resource constraints. The studio manager may suggest outsourcing production services, which may result in a higher rate.
There is no charge for consultation with the studio manager to discuss your project needs and possible resources or develop a price quote for services.
