Overview

Through creating this scholarship, Frank and Patte Owings are celebrating the role of liberal arts education, particular English education, in their lives and in creating a vibrant and humane society. Frank is a writer, musician, scholar, retired businessman, dedicated volunteer, and an English alum of the IU School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis. Patte is a graduate of Butler University, an artist, and a fine art photographer whose work has been featured in venues including the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Selection Criteria

The Frank N. and Patricia L. Owings Scholarship in English supports undergraduate students who are majoring in English in the IU School of Liberal Arts. Preference will be given to juniors who are Indiana residents in good academic standing.

Applicants for this scholarship should upload a 500-word response to the following prompt:

"How will your study of liberal arts in general, and English in particular, equip you to lead a meaningful life and contribute to the creation of a vibrant, humane society?"
